February was a busy month at First Pres. we started the month with the Deacon’s annual “Souper” Bowl dinner. Everyone wore the colors of their favorite teams, there was a lot of purple and green! Deacons served two chili recipes, gumbo and chicken noodle soup with Eldon’s famous home-made noodles! Funds raised by the meal are used for the Deacons’ Helping Hands outreach. Specifically the funds are used for emergency food, fuel, rent or utilities for members of our community who are in need. There was fun and good-natured ribbing about favorite teams, and which chili recipe was the best! (author’s opinion- Cindy’s) Both were delicious and all the pots were empty at the end of the day.
As the month moved forward we came into the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday services, as a church we are using Lent to read the book “Draw the Circle” by Mark Batterson. We are hoping the journey will help us find one “God idea” to move forward with opportunities before us.
As our Lenten journey progresses, the light in our sanctuary is darkening. As our windows are covered and we progress closer to the crucifixion, we ask ourselves, “were
you there?” We also have a single red rose in the front of our sanctuary, and as we watch the bloom fade from the rose, and the leaves wither as the crucifixion draws closer.
We hope if you are visiting our page, you will also join us on a Sunday morning for worship at 9:30 or Sunday School at 10:45. God is good and wonderful things are coming!
